What is a body composition test?

A healthy body not only concerns your weight, but in fact depends on several other factors. How can you measure these? With a body composition scale. A body composition scale measures much more than just weight.

What particular health values can be measured with a body composition scale?

Body fat percentage: A healthy fat percentage is important for your body. For example, it is unhealthy to have either a fat percentage that is too high or too low.

Body fat has multiple functions, including protecting organs and retaining body heat. With the help of our body composition scale, you can easily keep track of this.

Body Water: Your body needs water to function properly. Some days your body retains more water than others. A normal scale would show a higher weight, which is demotivating, while in reality, this is just an increase in body water.

Muscle mass: During exercise, you build muscle mass, which leads to burning more calories and energy. This increases your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which helps you lose weight and build muscles.

Bone mass: As you get older, your bone mass may change. In fact, after the age of 30, your bone mass gradually decreases. A healthy lifestyle protects the density of your bone mass, which can prevent possible problems.

Basal Metabolism (BMR): The BMR, or resting metabolic rate, is the amount of energy your body burns daily when your body is at rest. In other words, the BMR says something about the number of calories you need daily to keep your body functioning, without exerting physical effort.

Metabolic Age: A body analysis scale uniquely calculates your metabolic age by comparing your basal metabolic rate with the average BMR of your age group. Are you above the average BMR? Then your metabolism could use some improvement. Are you below the average? Then you are doing well!

Visceral fat: The body fat that is around your waist is also called visceral fat. It is the fat that surrounds your organs. High levels of this fat can lead to serious health problems. It is sometimes difficult to determine if someone has high visceral fat because it cannot always be seen from the outside. In fact, some people are "skinny fat," meaning they look slim on the outside, but still have high levels of visceral fat.
